Can helium become a solid
In the perspective of quantum mechanics, helium is the second simplest atom to model, following the hydrogen atom. Helium is composed of two electrons in atomic orbitals surrounding a nucleus containing two protons and (usually) two neutrons. As in Newtonian mechanics, no system that consists of more than two particles can be solved with an exact analytical mathematical approach (see 3-body problem) and helium is no exception. Thus, numerical mathematical methods are re… WebAnswer (1 of 5): I am sorry to tell you that solid hydrogen is definitely not a metal. On the other hand ,in room pressure helium is not able to solidify and helium will become a superfluid when near absolute zero, but we can still can get solid helium if we give a certain amount of pressure, but...

WebNov 2, 2012 · They put the solid helium in a glass cylinder and put that in a device that twisted it one way and then the other, reversing direction 1,000 times per second. Then came the curious part: When the scientists lowered the temperature further still, the cylinder began twisting faster. ... Helium can become a solid at -458 degrees Fahrenheit (-272 ... WebJul 20, 2007 · Helium can certainly become solid, just like any other element. It does have the lowest freezing point of all the elements of 1.1 K (-272.05 °C or -458 °F).
WebDec 29, 2008 · At very low temperatures, helium can be solid and a perfect liquid at the same time. Theoreticians, though, have incorrectly explained the phenomenon for a long … WebDec 3, 2012 · Its two isotopes, helium- 3 and helium- 4, remain liquid down to absolute zero and have the lowest liquefaction temperature among the gases. These features can be traced to the high zero-point energy relative to their attractive potential. In two dimensions, helium-4 will form a liquid and become superfluid at temperatures that depend on the ...
WebMay 23, 2005 · Lets say 1atm, everything is solid at 0K except Helium which is still merrily a liquid. My thoughts are currently along the lines that He doesn't form molecules (like Hydrogen) so it is left to interact with other He particles only via Van der Waals forces. At 0k the atoms in the (now liquid) helium have no kinetic energy.
